This was never just dog food.

It began with Axl, one beloved Cane Corso, and a promise to make species-appropriate feeding simpler, more transparent, and more personal for the next family.

Meet the founder

Christopher built the support he once needed.

Christopher did not enter this business from a boardroom. He entered it as a dog owner trying to build complete raw bowls for a rapidly growing Italian Mastiff—sourcing individual ingredients from across the country and learning, meal by meal, what the process demanded.

His Army background shaped the standard: do the work, know the details, communicate clearly, and take responsibility when the plan needs to change. Today, that shows up in every feeding conversation, customer handoff, delivery route, and follow-up.

The operating principle

Customers should never feel like an order number. The food matters. So does having a real person who will answer the question, help build the plan, and stay present after the first box arrives.

Axl, the blue Cane Corso whose memory inspired West Texas Primal Bites

Axl's memory · The reason behind the work

Meet Axl.

A soul dog, a first Cane Corso, and the beginning of everything that followed.

Axl's size and appetite made the difficulty of do-it-yourself raw feeding impossible to ignore. His family sourced individual items from all over the country to keep his bowl species appropriate, but the process was expensive, fragmented, and hard to sustain.

Axl later suffered grand mal seizures and died far too soon. In the end, he spared his family from having to make the final quality-of-life decision themselves. They miss him dearly.

His life became a promise: keep feeding their dogs species-appropriate diets, avoid unnecessary fillers where possible, and help other families access a simpler path with honest guidance. West Texas Primal Bites carries that promise forward every day.

Axl's story is shared as the family's experience, not as a claim that diet causes, treats, or prevents seizures or any disease. Nutrition guidance does not replace veterinary care.

November 2023 to today

From one promise to a working system.

The photos tell the honest version: machinery, moving blankets, straps, garage floors, handwritten customer names, heavy cases, a white van, and an empty shop that had to be built one shelf at a time.

Visiting the blend-making facility and meeting the people behind production in November 2023

November 17, 2023 · Clarksville

Know the source before asking for trust.

The journey began behind the scenes—meeting the people making the blends, seeing the equipment, and learning how the food moved from raw ingredients to a finished product. Before scaling sales, Christopher wanted to understand what customers would be feeding.

LessonTransparency starts upstream. Do not sell mystery food.

Christopher writing a handwritten note for a West Texas Primal Bites customer order in February 2024

February 1, 2024 · A note in every order

Personal service started before scale.

Before the routes, the van, or the shop, Christopher sat down with the paperwork and wrote to customers by hand. The note was a small act, but it established the standard: a box should feel like it came from a person who knows why the order matters.

LessonPersonal touches only matter when they are genuinely personal.

A full pallet of frozen blends strapped inside the early red delivery trailer in February 2024

February 8, 2024 · The first heavy loads

The business became physical.

A pallet in a red enclosed trailer made the responsibility real. Frozen food had to be picked up, protected, strapped down, transported, unloaded, organized, and delivered correctly. This was never a drop-shipping story.

LessonA promise is only as strong as the handling behind it.

Early cases of raw blends organized on the garage floor in March 2024

March 8, 2024 · The garage stage

Build the system before the spotlight.

The early inventory did not sit in a polished warehouse. It arrived in stacks of cases on the garage floor. Every blend, customer request, pickup, and handoff exposed another process that needed to become clearer and more repeatable.

LessonGrowth magnifies the system you already have. Organize early.

Customer-labeled boxes packed for delivery routes in November 2024

November 16, 2024 · Routes and relationships

The names on the boxes changed the mission.

Terrie. Tracy. Real families and real dogs—written directly on the cases before a route. Repeat customers turned a young business into a community, and customer care became inseparable from the product.

LessonNever let scale turn a person into an order number.

The Beast, the white Mercedes Sprinter van purchased to expand delivery capacity in June 2025

June 17, 2025 · The Beast arrives

Reinvest in the bottleneck.

The white Sprinter became known as The Beast. It was more than a vehicle—it marked the move from making do toward building dependable delivery capacity for a growing Primal Family.

LessonThe right next investment is the one that protects service as demand grows.

The mostly empty new Greenwood home and shop during the May 2026 move

May 2026 · The move to Greenwood

The new shop arrived mostly empty.

Loading, packing, moving, and unloading did not pause the responsibility to customers. The new home and shop began with open floor space, pallets, blankets, tables, and a long list of work still ahead.

LessonA bigger space is not progress by itself. What you build inside it is.

Shelves and inventory taking shape inside the new shop in June 2026

June 2026 to today · Shelves, inventory, momentum

The empty space became an operating home.

Shelves went up. Inventory found a place. The same business that began with a difficult bowl for one giant dog now had room to serve more families without abandoning the one-on-one care that built it.

LessonThe goal is not to look bigger. It is to become more dependable.

The honest scorecard

Wins, losses, and what they taught us.

The loss

Losing Axl meant losing a soul dog far too soon. That grief is not a marketing device; it is the responsibility behind the company.

The hard parts

Long drives, heavy frozen cases, improvised storage, logistics snags, and building systems while still serving the family in front of us.

The wins

Repeat families, trusted routes, a 5.0 Google rating, The Beast, a new operating home, and customers who say they feel like family.

In their own words

The product got their attention. The support earned their trust.
